I’m Nic, the founder of the ‘Certificate in Dancer’s Injury Prevention & Well-being SCQF-8’ and the Dance Teachers Training Academy.

My professional performing career took me around the world, working with industry-leading and Emmy-nominated choreographers and directors and performing on the international stage … until I hit burnout and experienced a career-ending injury at just 23 years young. In my world, I lived by ‘the show must go on’ mantra a little too literally, like most dancers, not knowing it was costing me my career and passion. If only I knew how to protect my body and mind as a dancer?!

Having retired from the stage and entered the world of teaching, I learned pretty quickly that my approach was like most … teaching the dancing body, not the individuals who dance. My skillset needed to expand if I wanted to help dancers have a healthier and stronger experience than I did, no matter if they dance recreationally or professionally.

It’s why I studied an MSc in Dance Science & Education and became a UKSCA-accredited Strength & Conditioning Trainer. And it’s exactly why the Certificate in Dancer’s Injury Prevention & Well-being SCQF-8 now exists.

As dance educators, we’re not just teaching choreography, we’re shaping the next generation.
